  3. Data Overwhelm: Juggling details from different artists for comparisons – prices, processes, specializations – becomes an overwhelming task.
  4. Global vs. Local Exposure: Sorting through international tattoo images overshadows local gems, complicating the quest for the perfect match.

I joined the specification and design process of Ink to enhance and refine the design language and processes. Initially tasked with UI design and creating a consistent design language, I evolved characteristic processes, pinpointed details, and developed new specifications aligning with professional judgment and research. While some processes remained unchanged, others were characterized and redesigned from scratch. The ongoing product design prioritizes refining and optimizing the user experience, ensuring seamless alignment with Ink application functionality and goals.

Design Process & Research

Initial Collaboration

This collaborative process laid the foundation for mutual understanding and set the stage for refining and evolving the design based on feedback and iterative improvements.

I started by thoroughly examining the materials provided by the founders and the existing wireframe. I went through the flows and existing processes, organizing them in a way that would make the existing screens and scenarios clearer and more manageable for me.

I clarified with the founders what constraints and boundaries existed, understanding what aspects were open to change and what were not. I aimed to comprehend their satisfaction levels and preferences, gaining insights into how they envisioned the product.

I conducted extensive research on the target audience and competitors, utilizing platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tattoo mobile apps, and more. This research informed the selection of the visual language for the product and contributed to enhancements in wireframes and flows delivered to me.

I executed screen designs in alignment with the client’s prioritization. Some screens are still in progress due to budget and time constraints.

Competitor Analysis

In my pursuit of design inspiration, I delved into the websites and applications of tattoo artists, alongside exploring international competitors with a similar focus on centralizing tattoo artists and inspiring tattoo designs. Notably, I observed a prevalent use of black and white color schemes, particularly in interfaces catering to artists specializing in monochromatic styles.

Seeking creative input, I turned to platforms like Behance and Dribbble, aiming to infuse innovative elements into the design. The compilation of screenshots from each interface allowed me to analyze successful aspects and areas for improvement.

Expanding the scope, I drew inspiration from tools integral to the target audience’s tattoo discovery process, including Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. Additionally, insights were gleaned from platforms promoting a diverse range of external businesses like Wolt, 10Bis, and Iherb.

This thorough analysis serves as a foundation for refining and enhancing the INK application, incorporating successful elements from competitors and drawing inspiration from widely used platforms within the target audience’s journey.
